Request a Letter of Support
Community partners may request a Letter of Support for a funding application, as necessary. The Blueprint Council is given the authority in the governance charter to review and approve/deny requests for support.
Any request submitted using the process outlined below will be sent to the Blueprint Council electronically, who will be asked to respond with any concerns within 3 business days of receipt of email.
You will be notified within 5 business days if your letter for support will be endorsed by the Blueprint Council on behalf of the CoC. The letter you receive will be signed by the Support Entity (CHIP) in accordance with the Governance Charter.
Requirements for a Letter of Support
Requests for letters must be submitted 10 business days before the requested due date. The CoC cannot guarantee that requests submitted without sufficient time will be reviewed or approved.
Those making the request must provide a template letter that includes:
A brief project description
How the funds will be used and impact of the project or grant (extent of the issue and how many will be served)
Agency involvement with the CoC
Description of the funding and project's alignment with the Indianapolis Community Plan to End Homelessness
A template letter for the CoC to endorse
Email your request and a copy of your template letter for CoC endorsement to firstname.lastname@example.org.
If an agency or entity is applying for funding that requests a support letter or statement from the Continuum of Care (CoC) or the Governing Board of the CoC, then the agency should follow the process outlined above to request support. Letters of support are not typically required for the CoC Program, Emergency Solutions Grant, or Housing Trust Fund applications, but the agency will want to thoroughly review their grant application to ensure application requirements are met.
When is a Letter of Support required?
Please create a letter or email outlining your request, in accordance with the guidelines listed above. In particular, your request should include the information regarding the agency/entity's participation in the CoC, the funding/services information listed above, and the alignment of the project with the Indianapolis Community Plan to End Homelessness. With the request, you need to also submit the template letter for the CoC to endorse your project. You must email this information to email@example.com. Requests must be given AT LEAST 10 business days. The earlier your request is submitted, the easier it is for you to meet your application deadline without delay. The CoC cannot guarantee that requests submitted without sufficient time will be reviewed or approved.
How do I submit a request for a Letter of Support?
The template letter should include a space for the CoC to list its information and signature. Typically, funding applications dictate what the Letter of Support should state, so it is important to carefully review the funding application. If no guidance is given, the Letter of Support can include details about the project and how it aligns with the community's goals. If you are unsure what to include, contact firstname.lastname@example.org for feedback. Please note that the request must be submitted with a template letter, as it is not the responsibility of the CoC to know the specific expectations of any funder's Letter of Support content.
