Equity Dashboard
In 2018, the CoC began assessing disparities in homelessness rates across different populations, particularly examining issues of racial equity. Since then, we have broadened the scope of our analysis. The Indianapolis CoC recognized disparities in the homelessness rates of different populations as well as how different groups access services; however, it has at times been unclear where these inequities are occurring within the system and how to address them. To help close this gap, the CoC is publishing this dashboard to share information on successes and opportunities across our homelessness crisis response system. The information in this dashboard is reviewed regularly by the Blueprint Council.

Key Takeaways:
- Black and African American households are disproportionately more likely to experience homelessness in Indianapolis compared to other racial groups
- Despite making up 29% of Indianapolis’s population, black and African American Households account for nearly double that in the system.
- On average, black heads of households have a lower VI score than their racial counterparts. This impacts their potential housing opportunities because clients with higher VI scores are typically prioritized.
- CoC leadership has brought together workgroups to determine what changes will have the most impact in addressing disparities.
